Temperature changes in Europe 1975-2000; winter season (DJF)

 

Surface air temperature changes December-February 1975-2000 estimated as the difference between the simple 11yr means for the periods 1970-1980 and 1995-2005. Longitudes and latitudes are indicated along the axis of the diagram.

 

Winter (December-February)

The period 1975-2000 is generally recognised in Europe as a period of widespread warming, being the result of alleged anthropogenic global warming. The winter warming mainly affected western and northern Europe , while many areas around the Mediterranean and in eastern Europe experienced net winter cooling or little change only. The highest net winter warming affected an area extending from southern Russia , across the Baltic, to Sweden .
